Sometimes a patient has improved to the point of no longer needing acute hospital care, but is not quite ready to return home. Swing Beds are designed for patients who have been hospitalized for a minimum of 3 days at a facility, but need further care before they are ready to go home or to another care setting. The term SWING means that the hospital may clarify beds for acute care or skilled care. Swing Bed patients receive services like physical or occupational therapies, long term IV antibiotics, specialized wound care and other skilled services. Patients can also receive therapeutic recreation while in the Swing Bed program. |
