Clinic Nurse - Medical Clinic
Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Current licensure in good standing in state of Iowa, and all other states where license is held
Current BLS Certification & Mandatory Reporter Training.

Duties
Patient Care:
Perform patient assessment and documentation in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) prior to a provider visit to include:
• Vitals
o BMI
o Blood Pressure & repeat blood pressure as needed
o Temperature
o Pulse Ox
Initial Patient assessment screening
• Chief complaint – document reason for visit
• Medications
o Update current medication list in the patient’s EMR
o Update medication allergies
o Update current pharmacy in EMR
• Medical History
o Update past medical history
 Social History
 Family History
 Surgical History
Prepare equipment and assists providers during examinations, treatments, and minor surgeries.

Administer medications, dressing and treatments as needed.

Administer vaccinations and document in EMR & IRIS

Assist with emergency lifesaving procedures as needed.
Prescriptions & Medications
• Review and update patient medication lists
• Prepare prescription requests.
• Perform prescription refills
• Obtain prior authorizations for medications as needed
Obtain prior authorizations on tests as needed for insurance companies.

Perform appropriate telephone triage
• Document communication and action in the patient’s EMR
Schedule patient appointments for diagnostic testing or consultations with specialists
Maintain liaison between the clinic/providers and home health and nursing homes.
Perform Chronic Care Management duties
Facilitate patient and family access to health care, school, and community resources including specialists, pharmaceutical assistance services, mental health, and drug treatment programs.

Laboratory:
Perform all inhouse lab tests and prepare specimens for lab sent to reference labs
• Verify laboratory test appropriate ICD10 Diagnosis Codes for medical necessity
• Obtain signed ABN form from patient if question of medical necessity
Maintain CLIA regulations, Protocols and Policies, Proficiency Testing, Quality Assessment and Qualitive Control.
Report test results as required to local, state, and federal agencies.
Maintain lab equipment.
Maintain Laboratory Testing Logs
Provide audit of expired drugs, sample drugs, injectables and supplies.
Order supplies as needed.
Sterilize equipment and maintain autoclave.
Maintain emergency box.
Stock rooms.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:
Maintain compliance with Medical Clinic P.C.’s policies and procedures.
Provide patient care in compliance with Medicare and Medicaid requirements for Rural Health Clinics.
Maintain documents and reports and submit documentation as required.
Document patient communications and maintain patient records in EMR.
Maintain compliance with regulatory entities including Iowa Department of Inspection and Appeals, DEA, COLA, CLIA, local, state, and federal government.
Maintain current knowledge and comply with HIPAA & OSHA regulations.
