Lab Assistant/CMA for Lab
George C. Grape Community Hospital is looking for a Lab Assistant/CMA to join our team! The Laboratory Assistant/CMA plays an important role in the lab. The lab at GCGCH is committed to providing excellent care to our patient, in a caring manner. We continuously strive to exceed patients' expectations by providing continuity of personalized care through easy access to services.

The schedule will be a full-time day shift 0600-14:30 Monday through Friday.

Job Duties:

 Performs all waived and moderately complex test procedures and quality control in all areas of the clinical laboratory and is under the supervision of an MT/MLT.
• Performs patient, control, and proficiency testing in a timely, efficient and accurate manner in chemistry.
• Performs patient, control, and proficiency testing in a timely, efficient and accurate manner in Hematology.
• Performs patient, control, and proficiency testing in a timely, efficient and accurate manner in Coagulation.
• Performs patient, control, and proficiency testing in a timely, efficient and accurate manner in Urinalysis/Serology.
• Performs venous and capillary collection of blood samples.
• Performs therapeutic phlebotomy
• Refers all other testing to the appropriate reference testing facility.
• Perform Non-DOT drug collections.
• Upon Completion of laboratory competency have the ability to take after-Hour Call -with rotation on weekends as assigned.

 Maintains laboratory records accurately and neatly.
• Adheres to laboratory quality control policies and procedures.
• Maintains legible script to avoid reporting error.
• Maintains laboratory records for the required time period.
• Maintains computer records utilizing the HIS/LIS.

 Performs instrument maintenance and maintains the physical laboratory space in a clean orderly fashion.
• Performs appropriate instrument maintenance according to manufacturer or laboratory requirements.
• Cleans the laboratory as needed and keeps it clean and orderly.
• Troubleshoots instrumentation problems.

 Performs all aspects of position in a compliant manner, following all applicable state and federal regulations.
• Understands and adheres to related regulations and laws which govern the performance of the services being provided.
• Maintains current knowledge of laws, regulations, and current events that may impact work produced.
• Considers the impact of regulations in work that is produced and discusses concerns with department head.
• Reduces organizational liability by following and applying all compliance regulations consistently.

 Participates in activities related to continuous performance improvements.
• Understands and participates in all QI projects related to the laboratory.
• Reports safety issues to department head or Safety Officer.
• Maintains appropriate licenses and certifications.
• Attends all required educational opportunities.
• Obtains additional certification/ education as required.

 Actively seeks to maintain strategic goals and department specific benchmarks.
• Understands and participates in attaining department specific benchmarks and balanced scorecard measures.
• Maintain Laboratory Services in accordance to mission, vision, core values and competencies and works toward meeting strategic goals.

 Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
 High school diploma or equivalent
 Previous experience in a laboratory setting preferred
 Skills in a hospital setting preferred
 Skills in all areas of the Laboratory preferred
 Working knowledge of HIS/LIS system, Word, Excel
 Graduate of a medical assisting education program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
 Current CMA Certification through the Certifying Board of American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
 Minimum two (2) years of previous experience as CMA in medical office setting
 Current BLS certification required
 Basic computer skills
