Melissa Spencer Marshall, ARNP-FNP Joins Our Staff

Posted on January 31, 2013

Melissa Spencer Marshall, ARNP-FNP joined the staff in November 2012. A hometown girl, Marshall grew up on a farm near Sidney and graduated from Sidney High School. She is thrilled to be able to actually work in her hometown and spend time serving her neighbors.

She was recently awarded a Master's Degree as a Nurse Practitioner from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, graduating with honors. She completed her practical in the Neurological Specialty Unit at UNMC learning to treat patients with traumatic brain injuries and other neurological disorders.

Melissa is married to Craig Marshall who shares her love of medicine and the emergency room. Over the years Craig has served as a volunteer fireman, paramedic and the Fremont County Emergency Management Coordinator. He now keeps busy as the owner and funeral director of the Crawford Marshall Funeral Home. He also works part time as a critical care medic and flight medic for the Air Methods life flight unit based out of Clarinda, IA.

Together they have raised four highly intelligent and successful young ladies who all attended UN-L. Their oldest, Linsey Camplin is married and working as an attorney in Lincoln. Daughter number two, Christie, graduated and is working as a Family Counselor in Lincoln. Kelley finished her elementary education degree in December and has started a teaching position and plans to start work on a master's degree this fall. Joely, the youngest is a freshman studying speech pathology.

Marshall says she benchmarks her education and career by the life of her youngest daughter. "When Joely went off to Kindergarten, I went off to college." She finished her bachelors and enjoyed working for Southwest Iowa Home Health as a nurse meeting with patients in their homes. "That was my favorite nursing job ever. I got to know my patients very well by working with them in their home environment."

When Joely hit her high school years, Melissa moved on to graduate school and worked at the Nebraska Medical Center. Now that Joely is off to college, Melissa can adjust to having an empty nest and a fulltime career.

Marshall has a calming, quiet demeanor which she maintains is because she manages her stress well. She is an avid runner and animal lover. They have always had many pets with four girls in the house to adopt every stray cat. They have two golden retrievers and she loves to ride horses with her neighbor.
